Our Story

Your crew for every day at the centre

Hertop Sports Centre has been the local base for fun, fitness and friendship since the site first opened its gates. We are run by Hertfordshire Microlight Club Ltd, the same team that has looked after the grounds for years, and we have grown this centre with one belief: sport should be open to everyone, whatever your level.

From the first muddy football kit in the boot of your car to a quiet afternoon on the tennis court, we want your visit to feel effortless. So we have a simple rule: every session is booked in seconds, every coach is qualified, and every bit of equipment is checked before you use it. That's what we would want for our own children, and it's what we guarantee for yours.

The numbers in the booking system matter, but they are just the start. We put on leagues, holiday camps and activityDays that bring different streets together, and we keep our barista café the kind of place where people stay after the shower and actually talk. We are not aiming to be the biggest centre in the county; we are aiming to be the one you lean on all year round.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

How do I book a court or a pitch?

Head to our online booking page, pick your sport, date and time – it takes under a minute. You can also book by phone during opening hours, and our staff will confirm availability right then.

Do I need to be a member to use the facilities?

Not at all. Casual visitors are welcome on all courts and pitches. Membership just gives you cheaper rates, priority booking for busy sessions, and a free guest pass each month.

What happens if the weather turns bad?

If it's just drizzle, most sports carry on – we have some all-weather pitches. In a storm or lightning we'll reschedule any outdoor session free of charge, automatically, so you don't have to call us.

Do you run coaching for complete beginners?

Yes, for every sport we offer. Our level 1 coaches are trained to start from scratch, so you'll never feel left behind – and there are adult beginner groups as well as kids' sessions.

Can I just turn up and play on a Sunday?

Sundays are often busier, but we keep three walk-up courts open all day. You might wait 15 minutes if it's peak tea time, but you'll never be turned away – just pop your name on the chalkboard at reception.

Is there somewhere to grab food and drink?

Yes, the café is open to everyone, not just spectators. Think flat whites, toasties and proper chips – no queue at the till, and you can bring food out to the courtside benches.
